Dolphins Hit The Road For Matches At CCNY, Farmingdale St.
Mount Saint Vincent ready to play thee straight road matches

The Dolphins will open the week with a road match at CCNY on Tuesday night.
Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Volleyball team will play a non-conference road match at the City College of New York on Tuesday night, before traveling to Farmingdale, N.Y. on Saturday to take on Skyline Conference rivals Farmingdale St. and Bard. The Dolphins stand at 7-8 overall on the season and 1-2 in Skyline Conference play.

Coming Up This Week: Mount Saint Vincent will play three matches on the road this week with two of those coming at Farmingdale St. on Saturday. The Dolphins will kick-off the week at CCNY on Tuesday night and then take on Skyline rivals Farmingdale St. and Bard on Saturday in Farmingdale, N.Y.

Scout Department: CCNY: The Beavers have had a strong start to the 2009 season and will enter Tuesday’s match with a 12-5 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in the CUNYAC. Floriana Garo paces CCNY with 241 kills and a .406 attack percentage and also leads the way with 42 service aces. Nicole Cascone has handed out 455 assists thus far, good for a per set average of 9.10 and Melissa Blass has totaled 28 total blocks to lead the team in that category.

Scout Department: Farmingdale St.: The Rams will enter the week with a 4-10 overall record at a 1-1 mark in league play. Heading into their match on Tuesday at USMMA-Kings Point Farmingdale St. Farmingdale St. is led by Dominique Cunningham in kills with 101. Shelby Martin has handed out a team-high 140 assists on the season and Tiffara Steward has recorded 148 digs and an average of 3.52 digs per set. Through matches on September 20, Eboni Harding is ranked 29th in the nation in total blocks.

Scout Department: Bard: Bard opens the week with a 5-8 overall record and a 1-4 mark against Skyline opponents. In a 3-1 win over Maritime on October 4 Iga Mrozek totaled 12 kills to lead the Raptors. Rachel Van Horn finished the match with 10 kills and leads the Raptors with 127 on the season and 2.89 per set. Van Horn is also the team leader with 27 service aces and 74 digs. Cara Chalk, who was named the first Skyline Rookie of the Week in 2009, leads the way with 16 total blocks and Ruth Ashebir has handed out a team-high 205 assists.

158 In 15: Over the first 15 matches of the 2009 season, the Dolphins have posted 158 service aces, good for a 10.5 per match average.

Home Court Advantage:The Dolphins have used Hayes Gymnasium to their advantage so far in 2009, posting a 6-2 record heading into their next home match on October 14. The Dolphins’ only losses in Riverdale in 2009 have come to Mount Saint Mary and William Paterson.

Seeing Double: Bridget Leonard has posted a double-double for the Dolphins in four matches this season. The latest came on September 26 against Old Westbury when she recorded 10 digs and 25 assists.

Career Bests: Of Mount Saint Vincent’s 11 returning players from a season ago, eight have already set or matched career-highs in at least one category. The most recent Dolphins to reach a new career milestone was Caryl Garcia who posted 23 digs last Tuesday against Sarah Lawrence.

Skyline Honors: After being named to the Grinnell Invitational All-Tournament team sophomore Renee Reynes wasnamed to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll on September 14 and 28. Jessica Williams earned Honor Roll recognition on September 21 and Bridget Leonard was recognized on October 5.

First Time - Twice: The Dolphins’ match on September 17 against Lehman marked the first time this season that a player has recorded double figures in kills in a match. It happened twice against the Lightning with Lisa O’Shea posting 13 kills to lead the team and Jessica Williams posting 11 in the winning effort.

TGI Tuesday: Heading into the match with Sarah Lawrence on September 29 the Mount has posted a 4-1 record on Tuesdays. The Dolphins have downed Yeshiva, York (N.Y.) , New Rochelle and Sarah Lawrence, while falling only to Mount Saint Mary.
