Brian Nigro '00 enters his second season at the helm of the Men's Basketball program.
Riverdale, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brian Nigro ’00 released the Dolphins’ 2009-10 game schedule on Wednesday afternoon. The slate features a full 20 game Skyline Conference schedule, 13 home dates and a trip to West Point, N.Y. to square off with Division I Army on December 19.

“Our non-conference schedule will be very competitive with opponents like Army, regional power NYU and defending ECAC Champion Lehman. That will prepare us for the league schedule and teams like Farmingdale St. who advanced to the Elite Eight last season,” stated Nigro.

Mount Saint Vincent will open the season with two straight home games against cross-town rival Lehman on November 17 and Skyline foe Yeshiva on December 1. The Dolphins are hopeful to open the season in the brand new Peter J. Sharp Athletic and  Recreation Center.

The Dolphins will stay in conference and travel to Mount Saint Mary on December 3 before tussling with New York University on December 5. Following home games with Staten Island and Old Westbury, the Mount will travel to West Point for a date with the Black Knights. The game will mark the first time the Dolphins have played a Division I opponent since playing at Marist on November 25, 1989.

“We are very excited to go play a Division I opponent like Army this season. It is a great opportunity for our kids and our school to be playing an institution with the tradition and history of the United State Military Academy,” explained Nigro.

Following the contest with Army the rest of the season will be almost exclusively against Skyline Conference opponents, except for a non-league home tilt with St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn on February 12. Over the course of the season the longest home stretch and road trip for the Dolphins will be three games. The three game road swing will come early in the season when the Mount heads to Farmingdale St. on January 12, Purchase on January 14 and Maritime on January 16.

The Mount’s longest home stretch of the season will come in the final month when it hosts Sage on February 9, Purchase on February 11 and St. Joseph’s on February 12. The Dolphins will close the season playing four of its final six games on their home floor.

Mount Saint Vincent will look to make its second straight trip to the Skyline Conference Tournament in 2009-10. After a 12-14 overall season last year and a 9-9 mark in the league, the Dolphins drew Maritime in the opening round of last season’s tournament, where they feel to the Privateers 89-60.
