Coming Up This Week: The Dolphins will host a pair of non-conference opponents this week. The Mount will open the week with Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday night before hosting William Paterson from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) on Thursday evening.
Scout Department: Sarah Lawrence: The Gryphons will come to Riverdale on Tuesday with a 2-3 overall record. To date the Dolphins and Sarah Lawrence have played two common opponents. Mount Saint Vincent has gone 2-0 against Yeshiva and New Rochelle, while the Gryphons have posted a 1-1 record against those two teams.
Scout Department: William Paterson: The Pioneers enter the week with an 8-3 overall record. William Paterson has won its last two matches overall and four of its last five heading into it’s NJAC match at Rutgers Camden on Tuesday night. Heading into Thursday’s match, the Mount and William Paterson have played three common oppoents, with the Pioneers posting a perfect 3-0 mark against Saint Elizabeth, Mount Saint Mary and York (N.Y.). The Dolphins have posted a 2-1 record against those teams, faltering against Mount Saint Mary in their Skyline Conference opener.
The Pioneers are led on the season by Kelly Helfrich who has amassed 151 kills through 11 matches, good for a per set average of 3.97. Helfrich also leads the team in digs with 103 and total blocks with 137.
Megan Maher has also been a standout for Williams Paterson in 2009 with 105 kills and team-highs in assists with 131 and service aces with 20. Jilliam Bronowich has also seen significant time at setter with 126 assists and a team-high 3.71 assists per set.
137 In 13: Over the first 13 matches of the 2009 season, the Dolphins have posted 137 service aces, good for a 10.5 per match average.
Home Court Advantage: The Dolphins have used Hayes Gymnasium to their advantage so far in 2009, posting a 5-1 record heading into Tuesday’s match with Sarah Lawrence.
The lone defeat came on September 22 to Mount Saint Mary.
Seeing Double: Bridget Leonard has posted a double-double for the Dolphins in three of the past six matches. The latest came on September 26 against Old Westbury when she recorded 10 digs and 25 assists.
Career Bests: Of Mount Saint Vincent’s 11 returning players from a season ago, eight have already set or matched career-highs in at least one category. The most recent Dolphins to reach a new career milestone was Irma Nepomuceno who posted 20 digs on September 26 against Old Westbury.
Skyline Honors: After being named to the Grinnell Invitational All-Tournament team sophomore Renee Reynes wasnamed to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll on September 14 and 28. Jessica Williams earned Honor Roll recognition on September 21.
