Women’s Volleyball Swept By Mount Saint Mary In Skyline Opener
Dolphins drop first home match of the season

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Volleyball team was defeated at home for the first time this season on Tuesday, falling to Mount Saint Mary 3-0 in its Skyline Conference opener. The Dolphins dropped the contest by set scores of 19-25, 23-25 and 20-25. Sophomore Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) led the offensive charge with seven kills on the night.

Williams finished the night with her seven winners to go along with an assist and a defensive dig. Lisa O’Shea (White Plains, N.Y.)contributed four kills for the Dolphins along with three digs. Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y.) finished with three kills, a pair of service aces and 10 digs for the Mount.

Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) continued her strong defensive play on the night with a match-high 23 digs along with a service ace and three assists. Nepomuceno and Esmeralda Morales (Bronx, N.Y.) each picked up a block assist in the match for the Dolphins’ lone total team block.

The visiting Blue Knights had seven players with at least one kill on the night, led by eight from Elizabeth Douress. Courtney Kenney also had a strong evening for Mount Saint Mary with seven kills. Douress also finished the night with a match-high three total blocks.

Heather Schaeffer led the Blue Knights with 19 defensive digs and Katie Toole led the way with a match-high 19 assists. Kenney also added eight digs on the night and a block assist.

The Blue Knights finished the night with 25 kills to 23 for the Dolphins, while the Mount lifted 60 digs to 53 for Mount Saint Mary. The Blue Knights did hold a commanding advantage in total team blocks, 5-1.

The loss is Mount Saint Vincent’s second straight and drops it to 4-6 overall on the season and to 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Thursday night when they host the College of Saint Elizabeth. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
