Photo Exhibit at College of Mount Saint Vincent: From the Other Side
9/14/2009 - Shane Strassberg ’03 will showcase his photography in an exhibit entitled, “From the Other Side” on Friday, September 18, from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the Elizabeth Seton Library.   Shane is an aspiring photographer, a former Marine, and Mount alum. He became interested in photography while taking classes his senior year with Richard Barnet, Associate Professor of Humanities/Fine Arts.

Shane describes his work as a paradox with different layers of meaning. “I often feel disconnected with the nuances of society, and my photographs are a way to bridge that gap and connect with people I don't even know,” said Shane.

After joining the service in 2003, Shane began capturing moments during his time in the Middle East as well as photographing his life as a civilian at home. As a soldier, he saw the world by visiting Okinawa, Kuwait, Iraq, and Thailand. “My time in the Marines changed me forever,” said Shane.

When Shane returned home, he actively pursued a career in photography.  He thought the Mount would be a great place for an exhibit.  “I wanted to reconnect with the community and share my experiences,” said Shane, a Staten Island native. “It also helps me gain exposure for me as a photographer.”

Today, Shane is involved in a number of different projects. He is working on his photography website called http://www.shootshane.com/.  He also works at Yonkers Raceway in Yonkers, NY as a photographer in their Broadcast Department. He photographs the races and the winning horses and owners in the winner’s circle.
