Dolphins Set To Host York (N.Y.), Travel To Iowa For Grinnell Invitational
Dolphins stand at 1-0 after downing Yeshiva in season opener

The Dolphins will play five matches this week, including four at the Grinnell Invitatonal.
Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Volleyball team opens a busy week Tuesday night with a home match with York (N.Y.) at 7:00 p.m.. Following the contest with the Cardinals the Dolphins will embark on a weekend trip to Grinnell, Iowa to play four matches in the Grinnell Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Dolphins stand at 1-0 on the season after a dominating 3-0 win over Yeshiva on September 1. The Mount finished the match with 24 service aces, including six from freshman Kristine DeMassi (Bay Ridge, N.Y.). Six Mount Saint Vincent players had at least two aces against the Maccabees, with Esmeralda Morales (Bronx, N.Y.), Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Maureen Metzner (Mineola, N.Y.) each registering three. Senior Tara Mead (Pearl River, N.Y.) led the team with seven kills in the contest.

York (N.Y.) will travel to Riverdale with a 2-1 overall record on the season, with both victories coming against Division II opponents. The Cardinals picked up a tightly contested 3-2 victory over St. Paul’s College and swept Cheyney College 3-0 this past Saturday. Shanine Bogan leads the squad with 11 kills on the season, while Irma Ruilova leads the way by averaging 2.89 digs per set over the first three matches of the season.

Mount Saint Vincent’s first opponent at Grinnell will be William Penn University located in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Entering their match this evening with Ashford, the Lady Statesmen have posted a 6-4 overall record through their first 10 matches. Emily Stanton leads the way for William Penn with 100 kills and a per set average of just under 3.00 and in digs with 122. Krista Pettit leads the squad with 201 assists.

Host Grinnell will enter the first day of its Invitational with a 1-4 overall record after five matches at the Illinois College Blue Brawl Invitational. The Pioneers downed Greenville in the opener of the tournament, but were then bested by the University of Dubuque, Westminster (Mo.), Bethany Lutheran and Cornell College.

On Saturday the Dolphins will tangle with Monmouth College (Ill.) and Rockford College (Ill.) to close out the Midwest road trip. Rockford will enter the two-day event with a 1-2 overall mark in 2009. The Regents defeated MacMurray College at the Monmouth College Invitational, but were defeated by the hosts and also by Beloit College.

Monmouth will enter the Grinnell Invitational with a 3-1 overall mark on the campaign after winning all three matches in its tournament last weekend. The Fighting Scots have three players with at least 20 kills through the first four matches, with Chelsey Widdop leading the way with 37 winners. Sara Schoon paces the team with 71 defensive digs, while Alexia Keller has handed out 71 assists to lead the team.
