Margaret Ann Dames is the Superintendent of Schools and Director of the Office for Education for the Diocese of Bridgeport. She is committed to educational excellence and the Catholic faith.
For more than thirty-five years, Catholic school systems across the United States have faced declining enrollment, but under her leadership, the Diocese of Bridgeport is among the exceptions. Enrollment is on the rise. Today, with uncommonly high levels of educational attainment, her parochial schools serve more than 14,000 students. Her leadership has made excellence and growth possible. She restored professional trust in teachers and by encouraging all teachers to map their curricula, she fostered “a grass roots effort” of reform. Her schools consistently exceed state standards and have earned national recognition, including recognition from the president of the United States.
Margaret was an Ad Laudem Dei honoree in 2008.
