Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Volleyball team will open the 2009 season on Tuesday night with a home match against Yeshiva at 8:00 p.m. The match will mark the first time the two programs will meet head-to-head as Yeshiva is in just its second year as a varsity program.

Mount Saint Vincent is coming off an 11-9 season overall in 2008 and a 3-6 mark in Skyline Conference competition. The Dolphins return two of their top three from a season ago in kills in Lisa O’Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) and Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.). O’Shea finished last year with 118 winners, while Williams capped off a solid rookie season with 116 kills, 79 digs and a team-high 45 service aces.

Also back from last season’s team is Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) who led the team with 392 digs, good for a 5.60 per set average, in her rookie season as the team’s primary libero. Mount Saint Vincent will also welcome back senior Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) who missed the majority of the 2008 season due to injury. As the team’s setter over the past three season’s, Leonard has compiled 1, 014 assists for the Mount.

The Dolphins open a busy September on Tuesday and will play their first two matches of the season at home in Hayes Gymnasium. After a September 8 match with York (N.Y.), the Mount will head to Grinnell, Iowa to take part in the Grinnell Invitational. Upon its return, Mount Saint Vincent will then play five of the final eight matches of the month at home, including a September 22 match with Skyline Conference rival Mount Saint Mary.

The Dolphins will play only three home dates in October and will head on the road for dates at Farmingdale State, Maritime and Skyline Preseason favorite Sage. The regular season will conclude with a tri-match at Baruch on October 30 with the host Bearcats and Centenary (N.J.).

The top four teams in the league will vie for the Skyline Conference Championship and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on November 4 and 7. Sage is the two time defending league champ and has posted a 22-0 record in its last 22 matches against league opponents.
