Women’s Soccer Selected Ninth In Skyline Conference Preseason Poll

Clifton Park, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Soccer team has been selected to finish ninth in the Skyline Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll it was announced on Friday afternoon. The Dolphins received 20 points in the poll, just two points behind eighth place Maritime.

Two time defending Skyline Champion Farmingdale State sits atop the poll with 76 total points, including five of the possible 10 first place votes. The Rams opened the 2008 season with a 2-8 overall record, but rebounded to win 10 of its final 11 matches en route to their second straight crown.

 St. Joseph’s-L.I. sits in second place in the preseason poll with 68 points and the Golden Eagles also received three first place votes. St. Joseph’s won a program record 14 matches in 2008, including a perfect 9-0 record in Skyline regular season play.

Bard is third in the poll that was taken among the league’s ten head coaches. The Raptors received 62 points in the poll. Mount Saint Mary and Old Westbury round out the top half of the poll with the Blue Knights receiving 58 points and the Panthers earning 54. Each squad also received one first place vote.

Rounding out the poll is Sage in the sixth position with 42 points, Purchase in seventh place with 27 points, Maritime in eighth with 22 tallies, Mount Saint Vincent and Yeshiva in tenth with nine points.

The Dolphins are coming off a 2008 season that saw them finish 1-15-1 overall record and a 1-7-1 mark in Skyline Conference play.

Mount Saint Vincent will kickoff the 2009 season on Wednesday, September 2 when it hosts Vassar. The season opener is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers.
