GRADUATE ASSISTANT FOR COMMUTER STUDENTS
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Graduate Assistant for Commuter Students is supervised by the Assistant Director of Student Activities. He/She works closely with professional staff from around the campus and is a vital part in providing well rounded programs for Commuter Students and co-curricular activities campus wide. He/She is responsible for 6-8 Commuter Assistants, a variety of projects related to Commuter Life, Student Activities and Leadership Development, and has responsibilities as a live-in staff member for the Office of Residence Life and Housing.

This position is generally a 25 hours per week position. Hours are to be agreed upon between the Graduate Assistant and the Assistant Director of Student Activities. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM. The Graduate Assistant hours will need to fall within this timeframe and should be spaced out relatively evenly throughout the week. The preferred start date for this position is as soon as possible. Summer responsibilities are a required part of this position.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Work closely with the Assistant Director of Student Activities in the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of the Commuter Assistant (CA) staff.

Work closely with the Assistant Director of Student Activities to provide services and programs for commuter students

Work with Student Activities staff to implement and assesses campus wide programming and encourage and advise student organizations in planning, implementing, and assessing programs to meet these goals

Assist with departmental Student Activities functions; work closely with Office of Residence Life and Housing to coordinate programming efforts

Attend weekly staff meetings, in-service training sessions, and all appropriate retreats, workshops, or seminars assigned by the Offices of Student Activities
Participate as departmental and division team member

Participate in on-call duty rotation

Assume any other responsibilities assigned by the Office Student Activities


Salary and Compensation:
Six credit hours of tuition remission per semester at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, furnished apartment, meal plan, and $4,000 to $5,000 stipend yearly, and free staff/faculty parking decal.

Application Process:
Applicants must be accepted into a College of Mount Saint Vincent graduate program to be offered the tuition remission as indicated above.  Students enrolled in graduate programs at other institutions are encouraged to apply but will not receive payment for tuition credits.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required; currently enrolled in or accepted to a Graduate School Program.  Experience in Commuter Life issues is preferred.  Experience in a leadership position in student activities and/or residence life and housing and campus programming is desirable. Ability to work as a flexible, supportive team member in a diverse environment, excellent computer skills.
