Thursday marks just the third time in the five year history of women’s lacrosse at Mount Saint Vincent that the Dolphins have been shutout, with two of those coming at the hands of the Lions. The Dolphins were blanked on May 11, 2006 by Montclair St. and then on April 10, 2007 against TCNJ.
The Lions carried a 10-0 lead into halftime on Thursday and then added six more tallies in the second period to earn the win and move to 12-2 overall on the season. TCNJ was led by Kathleen Notos who finished with six points on five goals and an assist. Alison Jaeger and Lisa Seldeen each posted five points in the contest. Kelly Mitchell and Notos each paced the squad with five draw controls apiece in the win.
For Mount Saint Vincent, Kim Freaso (Setauket, N.Y.) picked up a team-high two groundballs in the contest, with Anna Buzzetta (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Stacie Tripp (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) each scooping one groundball each for the Dolphins.
Laurent played the full 60:00 in the cage for the Dolphins and made six saves in the game, with all six coming in the first half. The Lions used a pair of goalies in the game with Mary Waller and Laura Wasserman each making one save.
The Lions dominated each statistical category in the game, holding a 24-3 advantage in shots, and 11-5 edge in groundballs and a 16-2 advantage in draw controls. The Lions were a perfect 6-6 in clearing attempts, while the Dolphins went 4-10.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 8-5 overall on the season. Mount Saint Vincent will close the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Polytechnic. Opening draw with the Blue Jays is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn.
