Dolphins Sink Privateers On Senior Day

Jenna McColgan scored twice in her final regular season home game.
Throgs Neck, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Lacrosse team had 11 different players score goals and six player score at least twice in a 20-3 Skyline Conference win over Maritime on Saturday afternoon. Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, N.Y.), Kelly Martin (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) each finished the game with five points.

The Dolphins were never threatened in the game and scored the first seven goals of the contest on their way to a 12-2 halftime advantage. The Dolphins closed the game by outscoring the Privateers 8-1 over the final 30:00 to earn the victory.

LeGeyt, Martin and Mitchell all scored three goals for the Dolphins and added a pair of assists to account for 15 of the Mount’s 27 points in the contest. Seniors Jenna McColgan (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Stacie Tripp (Glen Cove, N.Y.) also had strong games for the Mount, each netting a pair of goals.

Kim Freaso (Setauket, N.Y.) and Mitchell led the team with eight groundball each in the tilt. Freaso caused three turnovers for the Dolphins in the game, while Mitchell posted five caused turnovers and won six draw controls. LeGeyt and Martin each picked up six groundballs a piece on the afternoon, while McColgan scooped three groundballs and caused a single turnover.

The Dolphins held the edge in every statistical category in the game. The Mount outshot Maritime 40-12, picked up 42 groundballs to 32 and won 18 of the 25 draw controls in the game. The Mount was also successful on 12 of its 14 clearing attempts and three of its four free position opportunities.

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 7-4 overall on the season and to 3-2 in the Skyline Conference. Next up for the Dolphins is a road date at Kean on April 22. Opening draw with the Cougars is set for 4:00 p.m.
