Dolphins Sweep Westminster (Pa.) For First Two Wins Of 2009
Blackford goes 3-3 in game two, records save in opener

Joe Blackford saved game one on Sunday and collected three RBI in game two.
Ft. Pierce, Fla. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team got into the win column for the first time in 2009 on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Westminster (Pa.). Mike Ruckdaschel (East Meadow, N.Y.) went 3-4 in a 6-5 come-from-behind win in the opener and Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J.) went 3-3 with three RBI in game two.

Trailing 5-3 in the top of the seventh inning in game one, Ruckdaschel drove in the tying run and the eventual game winner for the Dolphins. He finished the game with three knocks and also scored a run and drove in three.

Corey Kirsh (East Meadow, N.Y.) started the game for the Dolphins and worked 5.2 innings, allowing five earned runs. John Olsen (Seaford, N.Y.) picked up the win in relief for the Mount after working a third of an inning to close out the sixth. Blackford came on in the seventh for his first save and got out of trouble in the seventh with a 6-4-3 double play to end the contest.

In game two, a 9-5 Mount Saint Vincent triumph, James Labartino (Holbrook, N.Y.), Blackford and Gerald Amerosi (Staten Island, N.Y.) all picked up multi-hit games. Labartino went 2-4 in the game with two runs scored and a double, while Amerosi drove in three runs and also went 2-4.

Blackford helped to finish off the sweep by going 3-3 with a double, run scored and three driven in for the Dolphins. He also closed out the game by pitching the final inning and added an outfield assist earlier in the contest.

Sophomore Mike Trainor (Patterson, N.Y.) picked up his first win of the season (1-1) after working 6.0 innings. He allowed six earned runs on eight hits while striking out four.

The sweep pushes Mount Saint Vincent’s record to 2-3 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Monday evening when they take on Utica in Ft. Pierce. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
