Dolphins Fall In Hard Fought Match With New Paltz
Pufahl leads the way with nine kills

T.J. Pufahl paced the Dolphins with nine kills against New Paltz.
Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Volleyball team was defeated in a hard fought NECVA Metro Division battle on Tuesday night with New Paltz by a score of 3-0. The visiting Hawks took the contest by scores of 27-30, 28-30 and 29-31. Senior T.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins with nine kills in the match.

Pufahl was one of four Dolphins to collect at least six winners in the contest and also chipped in with three defensive digs. Rob Hockenjos (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and Matt Krauszer (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each finished with seven kills, while sophomore John Furka (Massapequa, N.Y.) contributed six for the Mount.

Furka led all players in the match with four service aces, as the Dolphins finished with eight in the match. He also chipped in with three total blocks and four digs. Justin Amaral (Warwick, R.I.) pitched in with a pair of aces, four digs and three total blocks and sophomore setter Michael Quinn (Wantagh, N.Y.) handed out 27 assists.

New Paltz used 13 more kills as a team and a .283 team hitting percentage to squeak out the road win. Ryan Huberty led the charge with 13 kills and Kevin Stross ended with 11 for the Hawks. Jake Moore posted a match-high seven digs, as the Hawks lifted 30 digs to the Dolphins 22.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 11-13 overall on the season and to 3-5 in the NECVA Metro Division. The Dolphins’ bust week resumes tomorrow when they host Bard on senior night at Hayes Gymnasium. The match with the Raptors is set for 7:00 p.m.
