The Dolphins will enter the ECAC Tournament with a 16-11 overall record. The Dolphins finished the league schedule with a 14-4 mark and entered the league championship as the third seed. After downing St. Joseph’s-LI in the quarterfinals by a score of 71-54, the Mount was on its way to its third straight appearance in the Skyline Semifinals. Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) finished the semifinal against Farmingdale St. with 23 points and 11 rebounds, but the Rams posted an 83-71 win and advanced to their sixth consecutive Skyline final.
Junior Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, N.Y.) leads the Dolphins in scoring on the season, averaging 13.6 points per game. Freshman Jen Mocanu (Middletown, N.J.) is good for 13.5 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 5.1 per contest. Mocanu is also second on the team in assists, handing out 2.4 per contest.
Heesemann rounds out a trio of Dolphins averaging in double figures on the season at an even 12.0 points per game. She is the team leader in rebounds at 8.6 points per night and was named Second Team All-Skyline Conference on Monday afternoon. Classmate Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, N.Y.) also earned all-league honors on Monday when she was named First Team All-Skyline Conference for the second straight year. She is good for 9.2 points per game and is handing out 4.7 assists per game.
After dropping four straight games in December, Mount Saint Vincent closed the season 12-4 in its last 16 games. The Dolphins posted a season long four game winning streak late in the season with three of the four victories coming on the road.
2008-09 will mark the second straight year, and second time in program history, that the Mount will appear in the ECAC Tournament. Last season the Mount was the eighth seed and lost a 61-40 decision at top-seeded Montclair St. Heesemann led the way for the Mount with 20 points.
Tip-off with the St. Elizabeth (19-8) on Wednesday is slated for 7:00 p.m.
