Women’s Swimming Places Fifth At Skyline Championships
Costa places second in 500-yard freestyle

Mount Saint Vincent placed fifth at the Skyline Championships on Saturday.
Purchase, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Swimming squad rounded out the 2008-09 season on Saturday with a fifth place finish at the Skyline Swimming Championships. The Dolphins finished the event with 31 points, trailing Maritime by just one tally for fourth. Freshman Amanda Costa (River Edge, N.J.) paced the Mount, finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle.

Costa finished the 500-yard event in a time of 6:21.96 to record the Dolphins’ highest finish of the afternoon. She also finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:22.33 and third in the 100-yard free in a time of 1:03.54. Costa was also a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed third, finishing in a time of 4:34.87.

Michelle Cabahug (Queens Village, N.Y.) also had a solid swim for the Dolphins after finishing fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:14.83. She followed that up with a sixth place performance in the 200-yard back and also swan the first leg of the 400-yard free relay.

Andrea De La Torre (Valley Stream, N.Y.) posted her best finish of the championship in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in the fourth position in a time of 29.72 seconds. She also took seventh place in the 200-yard freestyle and also swam in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays for the Dolphins.

The Championships close out the 2008-09 season that saw the Dolphins post a 3-6 overall record in dual meets and a 1-3 mark against Skyline opponents.
