Mount Saint Vincent Baseball Program Announces 2009 Schedule

RIVERDALE, NY – College of Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics and Head Baseball Coach Steve Macias announced his 2009 Baseball schedule on Thursday morning. The slate features a trip to Fort Pierce, Florida, 18 Skyline Conference games, a date with Division II Mercy College and the season opener at Division III National Power Kean.

The Dolphins will open the 2009 season with four games before it heads south. The Mount will travel to Kean on March 4 for a date with the Cougars. Kean was the 2007 Division III National Champion and made a return trip to the Division III World Series in 2008, finishing the season with a 39-11 overall record.

Mount Saint Vincent will stay on the road for a March 8 date at Stevens Institute of Technology. In 2008, the Dolphins edge the Ducks 2-1 in 10 innings on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The Mount will open the home portion of its schedule on March 10 when it hosts Western Connecticut, before hosting Division II Mercy on March 13. In 2008 the Dolphins traveled to Western and fell 10-3. Mount Saint Vincent opened last season with a double-header against Mercy and split.

On March 14 the Mount will head to Fort Pierce for its annual spring trip through March 18. Last season during the trip Mount Saint Vincent posted a 3-3 record over six games.

Following the spring break trip, the Mount will open Skyline Conference play when it hosts Old Westbury on March 20 and then travels to Polytechnic on March 21. Both dates will be doubleheaders. After tussling with the Blue Jays, Mount Saint Vincent will play four straight home dates, hosting national power Cortland on March 25, Purchase on March 29, Lehman on March 31 and Yeshiva on April 1.

After the extended home stand, the Mount will be on the road for three straight dates, traveling to Staten Island for two on April 4 and then heading to 2008 Skyline Champion Farmingdale State on April 5. The road swing ends on April 7 with a non-league contest at John Jay.

Starting with a home game on April 8 against CCNY, the Dolphins will split their final eight dates with four at home and four on the road. After tangling with the Beavers, Mount Saint Vincent will travel to Manhattanville on April 13, before hosting Baruch and St. Joseph’s-LI on April 15 and April 18. The regular season will conclude with a road game at New Jersey City University on April 22 and a road twinbill at Maritime on April 25.

The Skyline Conference Tournament will begin on April 29 with the Quarterfinals at the highest seed and continue with the remaining four seeds at Farmingdale State May 1-3. The Dolphins were edged by the host Rams in the Championship Round of the tournament in 2008.

The Dolphins closed out the 2008 season with a school record 23-17 record to go along with an 11-5 mark in league play. Mount Saint Vincent received its first ever post-season berth a season ago, appearing in the ECAC Metro Division Tournament.
