Cooke, Heesemann Named To PrestoSports/MBWA Honor Roll

WHITE PLAINS, NY – A pair of College of Mount Saint Vincent basketball players have been named to the PrestoSports/MBWA Honor Roll it was announced on Monday evening. Men’s Basketball senior Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY) and Women’s Basketball junior Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, NY) earned the accolades as both led their respective teams to 2-1 records last week.

Heesemann averaged nearly a double-double in three Skyline games last week in which the Mount posted a 2-1 record. Heesemann recorded her first double-double of the season on December 2 at Bard with 19 points and 12 rebounds and nearly reached her second on December 6 at Mount Saint Mary with 11 points and nine boards. In the game against the Blue Knights, Heesemann recorded her 500th career rebound. For the week she averaged 12.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game.

Cooke had a strong all around week for the Dolphins who went 2-1 overall and 2-0 in Skyline Conference play. Over the three games he posted 73 total points to go along with 16 rebounds, five assists and four steals. He shot 55.1-percent (27-49) from the floor, including an impressive 60.0-percent (12-20) from three point range. He also converted 7-8 from the free-throw line. He scored at lest 21 points in all three games and knocked down four three-pointers in all three contests. Against Bard on December 2 he recorded a career-high eight rebounds. For the week he averaged 24.3 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per contest, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals.  

Celebrating its fifth season, the Player of the Week Award is granted on a weekly basis by the New York Area Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Each week, each of the nearly 75 schools that play college basketball in the Tri-state area have the ability to nominate one male and one female student-athlete, based upon their on-court accomplishments over the previous seven days. An esteemed panel of media members votes to select the winners from the nominations. All players who receive votes, but are not named the Player of the Week, are then named to the Honor Roll. Next up for the Dolphins will be a Skyline Conference doubleheader with St. Joseph’s-LI on December 9 at Hayes Gymnasium. The women’s game will tip-off at 5:00 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 7:00 p.m.
