Mount Saint Vincent Sweeps Skyline Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards
Cooke named Player of the Week, Battle Rookie of the Week

Joe Cooke averaged 24.3 points and 5.3 rebounds over three games last week.
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – College of Mount Saint Vincent senior co-captain Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY) was named the Skyline Player of the Week and freshman Randy Battle (Bronx, NY) was named the league’s Rookie of the Week it was announced Monday, as the Dolphins swept the conference’s weekly awards. Battle and Cooke led the Mount to a 2-1 record over three games last week, including a 2-0 mark in Skyline Conference play.

Cooke continued his standout season for the Dolphins last week by averaging 24.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Cooke shot 55.1-percent (27-49) from the field overall over three games, including a red-hot 60-percent (12-20) from behind the three-point arc. Cooke scored at least 21 points in all three games for the Mount, including 26 against both Bard and Albertus Magnus. Cooke pulled down 16 rebounds overall, including a career best eight in a 108-72 win at Bard on December 2. Cooke also recorded five assists and four steals over the three game stretch. Overall he has scored at least 20 points in the Mount’s last five games.

Battle also had a steady week for the Mount last week. The rookie forward averaged 18.3 points and 6.3 rebounds, including a career-high 21 points at Bard on December 2 and a career best eight rebounds at Mount Saint Mary on December 6. Battle shot 48.9-percent from the floor overall and knocked down six of his eight free-throw attempts on the week. Battle also contributed 10 assists and four steals over the three games. The Bronx, NY native, who remains the lone Dolphin to score in double figures in each of  the team’s first seven games, leads all Skyline Conference freshmen in scoring at 16.6 points per game

The Dolphins’ 2-1 week moved their overall record to 4-3 and their Skyline Conference mark to a perfect 2-0. Up next for the Dolphins is a league date with St. Joseph’s-LI on December 9. Tip-Off at Hayes Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
