Dolphins Post Road Victory At Mount Saint Mary

Junior Nick DiMaggio posted 27 points and seven assists at Mount Saint Mary.
NEWBURGH, NYNick DiMaggio (Croton, NY) scored 27 points and senior co-captain Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY) added 21 in a 107-88 road win at Mount Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon. The victory marks the third straight game in which the Mount has scored at least 100 points.

The Dolphins trailed just once in the contest and retook the lead for good with 17:37 left in the opening period on a lay-up from DiMaggio. The Dolphins pushed the lead to 11 points with 12:37 left in the frame on their way to a 41-31 advantage at the half.

DiMaggio scored 17 points in the first half on 7-14 shooting and Randy Battle (Bronx, NY) pulled down seven rebounds in the opening 20:00. Overall in the half the Mount shot 50-percent from the field but just 58.3-percent from the free-throw line.

Mount Saint Vincent scored the first eight points of the second half and pushed its lead to a game-high 29 points at 78-49 on a pair of Dino Johnson (Amsterdam, NY) free-throws with 9:42 left in regulation. The closet the game would be the rest of the contest was 16 points with just over 2:00 left in the contest, before the Dolphins took the final 19 point win.

The Dolphins scored 66 points on 62.5-percent shooting in the second half. The Dolphins shot 20-32 from the field overall and 7-11 from three-point range. Five Dolphins recorded double figures in the second half alone with Cooke leading the way with 16 on 6-8 shooting.

The Dolphins shot 56.3-percent from the field in the game and 42.9-percent from three-point range. In the three game stretch in which the Mount has scored 100-plus points it is 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference.

DiMaggio reached 27 points on 8-15 shooting from the field and 11-12 shooting from the free-throw line. DiMaggio also recorded seven assists and a steal. Cooke eclipsed the 20 point mark for the fifth straight game on 8-13 shooting overall and 4-6 from long range.

Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY) had a solid all-around game against the Blue Knights with 14 points and matched the game-high with nine rebounds. He also posted three assists and three steals. Battle and Johnson each finished with 18 points, with Battle finishing with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Mount Saint Mary (1-5, 0-2 Skyline) was led by Chris Harrison who finished with 25 points to go along with nine rebounds and six assists. Carlos Valdez posted 16 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Knights.

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent’s overall record to 4-3 on the season and its Skyline record to 2-0. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Tuesday night when they host league rival St. Joseph’s-LI. Tip-Off is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
