Dolphins Sink Old Westbury For First Skyline Win Of The Season

The Mount Saint Vincent Women's Swimming team picked up its first Skyline win of the season on Wednesday at Old Westbury.
OLD WESTBURY, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Swimming team picked up its first Skyline Conference win of the season on Wednesday night with a 76-59 win at Old Westbury. The Dolphins scored first place finishes in the first seven events of the meet, with freshman Amanda Costa (Riveredge, NJ) picking up three individual wins for the Mount.

Costa continued her strong rookie season for the Dolphins by securing wins in the 500-yard freestyle, the 50-yard breaststroke and the 50-yard freestyle. She posted a winning time of 6:54.54 in the 500-yard free and was followed by teammates Jillian Stark (Brooklyn, NY) in second place and Carissa O’Leary (Brookfield, CT) in third place.

The Dolphins also took the top three positions in the 50-yard breaststroke against the Panthers. Costa again paced the field with a time of 38.58 seconds and was followed by Meaghan Soccoa (Brooklyn, NY) in second place and Angelica Iribarne (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) in third. Costa’s third win came in the 50-yard free with a time of 31.37 seconds. Stark took second in the event with a time of 32.39 seconds.

Iribarne also posted a win in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 3:08.70, while Danielle Murphy (Brooklyn, NY) won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:06.84. Michelle Cabahug (Queens Village, NY) won the 50-yard backstroke for the Dolphins in 33.23 seconds. The 200-yard medley relay team also posted a win at the meet with the team of Cabahug, Soccoa, Murphy and Andrea De La Torre (Valley Stream, NY) posting a winning time of 2:20.31.

The win moves Mount Saint Vincent’s overall record to 3-3 on the season and its mark in Skyline meets to 1-1. The Dolphins will be off from competition until after the holiday break when they return to the pool against Mount Saint Mary and St. Joseph’s-LI on January 17. The tri-meet at Mount Saint Mary is scheduled to being at 1:00 p.m.
