Mount Saint Vincent Sinks St. Elizabeth In Season Opener
Three Dolphins win two individual events

Beth Clark guided the Dolphins to a two point wn over St. Elizabeth in their season opener.
MORRISTOWN, NJ – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Swimming team earned a hard fought 58-56 win at the College of Saint Elizabeth on Thursday evening in its season opener. Mount Saint Vincent had three swimmers post victories in two individual events at the meet.

Amanda Costa (Riveredge, NJ) took first place in the 500-yard freestyle on Thursday in a time of 6:45.46. She was followed in third place by Jill Stark (Brooklyn, NY) who posted a time of 7:22.42. Stark also took second in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 37.97 seconds and placed third in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:21.00.

Costa picked up her second win of the meet in the 50-yard free in a time of 29.40 seconds. Costa also finished second in the 200-yard free against the Eagles, showing a time of 2:28.09.

Meaghan Soccoa (Brooklyn, NY) also won twice for the Mount in the win, posting victories in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 37.56 seconds and the 100-yard breast in 1:25.94. Soccoa’s win in the 100-yard event was dramatic, as she touched out her competitor from St. Elizabeth and helped the Mount to the two point win.

Michelle Cabahug (Queens Village, NY) also had a strong night for the Dolphins, as she finished first in the 50-yard backstroke in 33.28 seconds and first in the 100-yard back in a time of 1:14.69.

Costa, Soccoa, Andrea De La Torre (Valley Stream, NY) and Cabahug also teamed to finish second in the free style relay. The squad posted a time of 2:04.22 in the event.

At 1-0 on the season, Mount Saint Vincent will be back in the pool on November 8 when it travels to Sarah Lawrence. The meet in Bronxville is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
