Cross Country Teams Finish Fifth At York Invitational
Iribarne wins women’s race, Purushothan places seventh for the men

Angelica Iribarne won her fifth race of the season on Sunday.
BRONX, NY – Both the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams finished fifth on Sunday at the York Invitational. The men’s team was paced by Navin Purushothan’s (Orange, CT) seventh place run, while the women’s team was led by Angelica Iribarne (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) who won her fifth race in six opportunities.

Purushothan led the Mount for the first time this season and also ran to his best career finish on Sunday, completing the 5K course in a time of 17:58.96. He was followed fellow freshman Andrew Giordano (Staten Island, NY) who finished 11th in a time of 18:13.15.

Other strong performances were turned in on Sunday by Colin Galvin (Theills, NY) who placed 30th in a time of 19:47.2, Ralph Kiszakicwicz (Ozone Park, NY) who finished in 34th place in 19:53.88 and Shane Thomas (Mount Vernon, NY) who took the 42nd position with a time of 20:48.25.

The men’s team finished fifth of 10 scoring teams at the event with a point total of 114.

Iribarne went back to her winning ways on Sunday, as she paced the field of 76 runners with a time of 20:04.58. She was one of two Mount Saint Vincent runners to finish in the top 10 as Stephanie Widmer placed 10th, posting a time of 22:14.21.

Rounding out the Mount Saint Vincent finishers were Ana Garcia (Kingwood, NJ) in 23rd place in 24:20.32, Keianna McQueen (Brooklyn, NY) in 39th place in a time of 27:35.25 and Teresa Santini (Lynbrook, NY) in the 49th position with a time of 28:55.95.

The women’s team finished fifth overall out of 11 scoring teams on Sunday with a point total of 110.

The Dolphins will return to action again on Saturday, October 25 when they compete in the St. Joseph’s-LI Invitational.
