Dolphins Have Strong Showing At NJIT Invitational
Iribarne places third, Giordano 41st for the Mount
10/16/2008 - NEWARK, NJ – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams both had strong showings on Saturday at the NJIT Highlander Invitational. The women finished the meet in fifth place, while the men’s squad ran to an 11th place finish.

Angelica Iribarne (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) again paced the Mount Saint Vincent women’s team with a third place finish in a time of 20:08. Saturday is the fifth time the sophomore has finished in the top-5 this season and marks the first race of the year she has not finished first.

Following Iribarne for the Dolphins were Stephanie Widmer in 13th place in a time of 22:06, Ana Garcia (Kingwood, NJ) in 34th place with a time of 24:17, Mary Eileen Kiernan (Rockaway Point, NY) in the 47th position in 26:24 and Keianna McQueen (Brooklyn, NY) in 53rd place in 27:58. Teresa Santini (Lynbrook, NY) also had a strong run for the Mount, placing 56th at the meet.

For the fifth time this season Andrew Giordano (Staten Island, NY) paced the men’s team. He finished the race in 41st place on Saturday and posted a time of 30:38. Navin Purushothan (Orange, CT) also continued his strong rookie campaign with a 47th place finish in a time of 31:03. Ralph Kiszakkicwicz (Ozone Park, NY) placed 53rd for the Mount in a time of 31:40, while sophomore Colin Galvin (Thiells, NY) finished the course in a time of 34:14 which was good enough for the 86th position. Rounding out the field for the Mount were Renaldo Phillip (White Plains, NY) in 87th place and Shane Thomas (Mount Vernon, NY) in the 90th position.

The women’s team finished fifth of eight teams at the meet, while the men’s squad placed 11 out of 13 competing teams.

The Dolphins will be back in action again on Sunday, October 19 at the York Invitational.
