Dolphins Edged On The Road At Sarah Lawrence
Laurent, Kirby win singles matches
10/1/2008 - BRONXVILLE, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Tennis team dropped a hard fought 5-4 decision at Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday evening. The Dolphins won at first and third doubles and Karen Laurent (Queens, NY) and senior Michelle Kirby (Bloomingdale, NJ) each won their respective singles matches.

In doubles action, Kim Carreon teamed with Lauren DeRiggs (Freeport, NY) for an 8-5 win at the first position over the pair of Georgia Bendat and Sarah Morris from Sarah Lawrence. At the third position Kirby and Courtney McElhone (Wading River, NY) picked up a victory via forfeit.

In the singles competition, Laurent improved her overall record on the season to 4-4 with a 10-6 triumph over Sarah Lawrence’s Carlie Bentley. Kirby also improved to 4-4 on the season with a 10-5 victory over Emily Zemba.

The Dolphins also fell in a pair of tough singles matches on Tuesday evening. Carreon fell 10-8 to Morris at first singles, while senior Jessica Lorenzen (Demark, ME) dropped her first singles match of the season, also a 10-8 decision at the fourth position. Lorenzen still holds an impressive 6-1 record in singles competition on the season.

The loss, Mount Saint Vincent’s third straight, drops the team to 2-7 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to end their skid on Friday when they travel to Kean. The non-conference match is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
