Women's Tennis opened the season with a 5-4 win at Lehman on Thursday.

BRONX, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Tennis team picked up a 5-4 win at Lehman (0-1) on Thursday afternoon in its season opener. Senior Michelle Kirby (Bloomingdale, NJ) had a strong afternoon for the Dolphins, picking up wins at sixth singles and third doubles against the Lightning.

Kirby picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lehman’s Dalia Rodriguez, before teaming with freshman Courtney McElhone (Wading River, NJ) at third doubles to pick up an 8-2 win over Rodriguez and Mina Jeung.

Four of the Dolphins five points on the afternoon came in singles competition. Joining Kirby in the win column at singles were freshman Lauren De Riggs (Freeport, NY) with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the third position, Jessica Lorenzen (Denmark, ME) with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth singles and McElhone with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 win fifth singles.

The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 1-0 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action on September 8 when they open Skyline Conference play at Yeshiva. The league opener with the Maccabees is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.
