“I am extremely excited to be back here at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. It is a great pleasure and an honor to be the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at my alma mater,” stated Nigro.
“I am looking forward to restoring the great tradition of men’s basketball here at Mount Saint Vincent,” he added.
Nigro holds the freshman record for assists in a season at the Mount and his 674 career helpers in second on the school’s all-time list. In addition he ranks 10th on the NCAA Division III assists list and 12th on the NCAA list for assist average at 6.8 per contest.
During the 1996-97 campaign, Nigro helped the Dolphins to the Skyline Conference Championship with a 20-5 record as the Mount took on Rowan in the first round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
“We are pleased to welcome back Brian to the Mount Saint Vincent family,” said Macias. His knowledge of the institution and the game of basketball will help take our program to the next level.”
Following his playing days, Nigro shifted to the coaching ranks. He spent four years at his high school alma mater, Xaverian, where he was the head junior varsity coach and a varsity assistant for two years. He has also served as an assistant for the Open Men’s Division at the Empire State Games since 2004.
From 2000-02, Nigro was an assistant men’s coach at Globe Institute of Technology in New York, before taking the head varsity coaching position at Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn. He served as the head coach there from 2002-04.
Nigro just finished his first season as an assistant with
the Polytechnic Men’s Basketball team, where he
worked with his brother Dan. While with the Fighting Blue
Jays, Nigro was responsible for recruiting prospective
student-athletes, scouting and academics.
In his role as Assistant Director of Athletics, Nigro
will be responsible for starting a summer camp program at
Mount Saint Vincent. In addition he will be the
recruiting liaison for the department with Admissions.
A 2000 graduate from the Mount with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and a Minor in Health Education and Communications, Nigro completed his Masters in School Building Leadership at St. John’s University in January 2008.
Nigro currently resides in Brooklyn.
