| Logan Mauzy was honored with the Chuck Mancuso Dedication Award on Saturday at Mount Saint Vincent's annual Awards Banquet. |
The Chuck Mancuso Dedication Award is handed out annually to the student-athlete who bests demonstrates dedication to both his or her team and the department as a whole. Mauzy is hitting .310 this season for the baseball team and was an integral part to the Dolphins as they advanced to the Skyline Conference Tournament Championship Round in 2008. The senior catcher is in action today with the team in the ECAC Tournament in Pomona, NJ. This year’s ECAC appearance is the first in the program’s four year history. Off the field, Mauzy assists in event management for the department. He helps with event staffing and with game day management as needed.
The Sister Magdalen Horsting Spirit Sward is handed out each year to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the spirit of the Dolphins both on and off the field. A two sport athlete at the Mount, Laurent can be seen at every home event cheering and supporting her fellow student-athletes. In tennis this past fall, Laurent posted a 5-3 record in singles competition and a 5-4 mark in doubles action. As a goalie with the women’s lacrosse team, the sophomore net minder appeared in seven games and made four saves for the Dolphins.
The Senior Scholar Athlete Award is presented to the male and female who finish with the highest cumulative grade point average through the fall semester of their senior year. Adams, an attack on the women’s lacrosse team, excelled both on the field and in the classroom. She was second on the team this season in goals with 39 and points with 44.
Salute’s playing time in his senior campaign was limited due to injury. The catcher contributed to the team as a third member of the coaching staff this season and also excelled in the classroom. He has appeared in four games this year and made a pair of starts. Jason is with the baseball team today in Pomona, NJ as the Dolphins compete in the ECAC Tournament.
The Sports Medicine Department also handed out a pair of awards on Saturday at the banquet. Men’s Lacrosse player Brian Zambri (Brooklyn, NY) received the Hudson Valley Bone and Joint Surgeons Comeback Player of the Year Award after sustaining a knee injury last season. In addition, Head Athletic Trainer Barima Anyane-Yeboah handed out the 2008 Sports Medicine Award. The award goes to the Athletic Training assistant who shows dedication to both the student-athlete and the department and is willing to go beyond the call of duty. Junior Women's Soccer player Jen Lupero (Mamaroneck, NY) received the honor on Saturday.
In addition to the department wide awards, each of Mount Saint Vincent’s athletic programs handed out three honors of their own. Each coaching staff picked a team Most Valuable Player, a Most Improved Player and also handed out a Dolphin Award. The Dolphin Award goes to the student-athlete who best represents the program.
