RIVERDALE, NY – A pair of Mount Saint Vincent athletic teams will compete in their respective ECAC Division III Metro Division Tournaments on Wednesday. Baseball will open play as the third seed and travel to second seeded Ramapo, while the fifth seeded softball team will take on fourth seeded Baruch at the College of Staten Island.

Steve Macias’ baseball squad is in the midst of the most successful season in program history. At 23-15, the squad has set a program record for wins in a season and is making its first ever postseason appearance. The Dolphins also advanced to the championship round of the Skyline Conference Tournament for the first time ever in 2008.

The Dolphins had four players honored by the Skyline Conference this season. Freshman Michael Pope (Massapequa, NY) was named the league’s Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Skyline Conference. Joining him on the second team is Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ), as he is hitting .383 on the year and has also recorded five saves as the teams closer. Tanner and Zach Munroe (Milford, CT) were named First Team All-Skyline Conference in 2008, as the brothers are tied for the team lead in doubles with 13 and RBI with 36. Tanner is hitting at .407 entering Wednesday, while Zach is hitting at a .355 clip.

The Softball team has also seen success this season and will enter Wednesday’s contest with Baruch with an overall record of 19-18. The Dolphins clinched the sixth seed in the Skyline Tournament in 2008 and also finished runner-up in the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Mount Softball squad had three players earn post-season honors this past week, with sophomore Lisa O’Shea (White Plains, NY) being named First Team All-Skyline Conference and All-HVWAC. Joining O’Shea on the All-Hudson Valley Team were Dana McGuire (Setauket, NY) and Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN).

The baseball game at Ramapo is set for 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while the softball game will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the College of Staten Island. Check back for information on both contests, as the Dolphins will look to move onto weekend play in each tournament.
