Martin had a big year for the Dolphins as a sophomore in 2008. Martin was the team leader in goals with 48, assists with 18 and points with 66. The second year attack scored at least one goal in all but one of Mount Saint Vincent’s games this season and she recorded at least two in 14 of the Mount’s 16 games. Of the games she scored at least twice, Martin recorded a hat trick in 12 of those. She posted a five goal, eight point game on March 11 in a 16-8 win at Manhattanville. Martin also finished the season with 14 groundballs, 13 draw controls and four caused turnovers. Martin recorded her 100th career point for the Dolphins in 2008.
The Dolphins placed a pair of attack on the league’s second team in Cyndi Adams (Mechanicsville, MD) and Lauren Perla (Holbrook, NY). Adams was second on the team in scoring in 2008, with 39 goals and five assists for 44 points. Adams also contributed nine groundballs, 10 draw controls and five caused turnovers. Adams scored a goal in all but one game this season and scored four goals in a game on five occasions.
Perla had a strong rookie campaign for the Mount, which saw her record 24 goals and 32 points. She finished the season with three hat tricks and scored a career-high four goals in Mount Saint Vincent’s Skyline Semifinal loss at Kean. Perla also chipped in 19 groundballs, five draw controls and seven caused turnovers.
Two more players from the Mount received second team nods at the midfield position in freshman Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, NY) and Sophomore Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, NY). As a freshman, Mitchell finished third on the team in both goals and points and was the team leader in groundballs and draw controls. Mitchell finished the year with 30 goals and was second on the team with 11 assists for 41 points. She picked up 42 groundballs and recorded 55 draw controls as a rookie and also tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with 22.
Tucci also had a solid year at midfield for the Mount as she finished the season with 24 points on 19 goals and five assists. Tucci also finished up the campaign with 22 groundballs, 14 draw controls and 11 caused turnovers.
Rounding out the All-Skyline selections for Mount Saint Vincent are three defenders in Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY), Kim Freaso (Setauket, NY) and Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY). In 15 games as a senior, Alessi recorded one goal and 14 caused turnovers. She finished the season second on the team in draw controls with 32 and fourth on the squad in groundballs with 25.
Freaso played and started in all 16 contests in her sophomore season and finished the year with four draw controls and 10 caused turnovers. Freaso was also third on the team in groundballs with 27.
Rounding out the trio of defenders, Osorio appeared in 15 games and made 13 starts. She collected 20 groundballs on the year to go along with five draw controls. She also tied Mitchell for the team lead with 22 caused turnovers.
The Dolphins made their second straight appearance in the Skyline Conference Tournament Semifinals in 2008 and closed the season with an overall record of 7-9 and a league mark of 3-2.
