| Tanner Munroe led Mount Saint Vincent with three hits on Friday night. |
The Dolphins jumped out to an early two run advantage in the game, with two runs in their first at-bat. Mount Saint Vincent got a pair of run scoring infield singles from Al Schor (Norwalk, CT) and Michael Pope (Massapequa, NY) to gain the early edge. The Mount would leave at least one runner on base in six of its nine at-bats and stranded nine runners overall in the contest.
The game took a strange turn in the fifth inning for the Dolphins. Hanging on to the 2-0 lead, the Mount got a lead-off double from Schor and then a bunt base hit from Tanner Munroe to put runners on first and third with no one out. Pope then came up a lined out to third and the Golden Eagles were able to catch Munroe off of first and Schor off of third for a triple play.
St. Joseph’s would go on to tie the game in the sixth inning, before plating the go ahead run in the seventh and two insurance runs in the eighth. The second seeded Golden Eagles will move on to play top seeded and host Farmingdale State at noon on Saturday.
Tanner Munroe went 3-4 in the contest and Schor went 2-4 with his double and an RBI. The first seven batters in the Mount Saint Vincent lineup recorded a hit with Logan Mauzy (Homer, NY) and Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ) scoring the Dolphins’ runs.
Ryan Strub (Bohemia, NY) took the loss for the Mount on Friday and fell to 3-1 on the season. He worked 6.0 innings and allowed three runs, only two earned, on five base hits. Strub allowed just one hit through the first four innings of work. He struck out four and walked four for the Dolphins. Zack Keckley earned the win, working a complete game and allowing just the two runs. He walked four and struck out 14 Dolphins on the night.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 20-14 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to stay alive in the double elimination tournament on Saturday when they square-off with Mount Saint Mary. First pitch with the Blue Knights is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Farmingdale State.
