| Katie Tucci scored her eighth goal of the season on Tuesday at #2 TCNJ. |
The Lions opened the game by scoring the first six goals of the contest, all within the first five minutes of play. Perla got the Mount on the board at the 18:18 mark of the first half on an unassisted goal, her ninth marker of the season. TCNJ, who moved to the #2 spot in the latest IWLCA/Under Armour Division III National Poll, answered with three straight goals of its own before Tucci finished her eighth goal of the season with just under nine minutes left in the opening period.
The Lions, though, answered with three more goals to take a commanding 12-2 lead into halftime. Over the first 30:00 of play, TCNJ out shot the Dolphins by a 19-6 margin, converting 12 goals.
TCNJ would score the only five goals of the second half on Tuesday to earn the win. The triumph marked the Lions ninth straight win of the season and marked the 17th straight home win for the team dating back to the 2006 season.
Jackie Horn (Setauket, NY) played the full 60:00 in goal for the Dolphins and made three saves on the night. Horn also collected a pair of groundballs in the tilt. Her counterpart from TCNJ, Caitlin Gregory, made four stops in just over 43:00 of action.
Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, NY) led the Dolphins with five groundballs on the night, while Cynthia Osorio (Oceanside, NY) and Kristen LeGeyt (Stony Point, NY) each scooped a pair. Osorio and Mitchell also caused three turnovers apiece on the night.
For the game, TCNJ held the edge in shots 25-7 and in groundballs 15-14. The lions won 16 draw controls against just five for the Mount and turnovers in the contest went 19-16 against the Dolphins. Mount Saint Vincent went 6-18 on clear attempts and was a perfect 1-1 on free position shots.
The loss snaps a three game stretch that saw the Dolphins average 17 goals a game and drops them to 4-6 overall on the season. Mount Saint Vincent will be back in action when it opens Skyline Conference play at Maritime on Thursday, April 10. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
