Strub was the story in the game one victory, as he did not allow a base runner until the fifth inning on a leadoff walk to Greg Oliva. Strub did not allow a hit until the seventh when he allowed a pair of singles. The only other base runner allowed was a one out single in the ninth by Anthony Tenga who was later erased on a double play.
Russo picked up his four RBI on a pair of two-run singles in the contest. Zach Munroe (Milford, CT) also had a big day as he finished the contest 3-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI. Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT) connected on a pair of doubles in the game, scored a pair of runs and drove in one. Logan Mauzy (Homer, NY) collected three hits in the contest, while Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY) finished up 2-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Strub moved to 2-0 after his gem and lowered his ERA from 6.00 to 3.43. He fanned five in the win and walked just one batter.
The Dolphins got another strong pitching performance in game two, as Zach Munroe fired 6.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits. He struck out six and walked four in the win. Munroe also saw his ERA drop substantially on Sunday, as it fell from 7.88 to 5.14. Ricky Garcia (Garden City, NY) closed the game out by working the final frame and allowing a walk.
Russo continued his strong work with the bat in game two, going 1-3 and driving in a pair of runs in the nine run victory. Triolo and Cataldo each went 2-3 with Triolo scoring twice and Cataldo crossing home once. Triolo drove in a pair, while Cataldo pushed one run home.
Over the two games on Sunday, the Dolphins finished with 20 total runs and 23 hits. They did not commit and error and the Mount’s team ERA dropped from 6.75 to 6.08.
The sweep gives Mount Saint Vincent three straight wins and moves it to 9-11 overall and to 4-4 in Skyline Conference play. Mount Saint Vincent will be back in action again on Tuesday when it travels to Yeshiva. First-pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
