Mount Saint Vincent Downed At Staten Island
Furka moves to 2-0 in singles action, Friday’s match with Bloomfield postponed
4/4/2008 - STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Tennis team was defeated in its second match of the season on Thursday at Staten Island by a score of 5-1. Freshman John Furka (Massapequa, NY) picked up the win for the Dolphins at second singles and moved his singles record to a perfect 2-0 on the season.

Furka, who won at sixth singles on Wednesday at Farmingdale, was victorious in the second position on Thursday. He downed Staten Island’s Gary Ambartsumov by scores of 1-6, 6-3, 10-6. Furka also teamed with classmate David Guerrero (East Meadow, NY) at second doubles. The duo dropped a hard fought 8-5 decision to Staten Island’s Ambartsumov and Kevin Williams.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins’ match with Bloomfield scheduled for Friday has been postponed due to inclement weather in the area. The Dolphins will be back in action on Saturday at Skyline Conference St. Joseph’s (LI). The league match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
