Tom Callahan Named Skyline Men’s Volleyball Coach Of The Year; Five Players Earn All-Skyline Honors
Guerrero, Pufahl named First Team All-Skyline
4/3/2008 - LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – College of Mount Saint Vincent Head Men’s Volleyball Coach Tom Callahan has been named the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year, while five players have earned All-Skyline Conference honors. David Guerrero (East Meadow, NY) andT.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, NY) were named First Team All-Skyline, while Phil Anselmo (Bronx, NY), John Furka (Massapequa, NY) and Arnold Ross (Wilton, ME) earned Second Team All-League honors.
 
Phil Anselmo was one of five Mount Saint Vincent players to earn All-Skyline Conference honors.

Guerrero, a 5-9 outside hitter, posted 341 kills in 87 games played as a rookie, good for a per game average of 3.92. Guerrero recorded at least 10 kills in 15 matches this past season, posted 20 kills two times and eclipsed the 30 kill plateau once for the Dolphins. His career best 31 kills came against Polytechnic in the semifinal round of the inaugural Skyline Conference Tournament.

Guerrero also led the squad in service aces in 2008, finishing the campaign with 53. He recorded at least one ace in all but seven matches this season and finished with a career-best nine against Webb Institute on March 12. He finished with multiple aces on 11 occasions in his rookie campaign. Guerrero also finished the season as the team leader in points with 411.0. He bettered the 20.0 point mark six times, including a career-high 31.5 on March 16 in the Semifinals of the Skyline Conference Tournament.

Guerrero also finished the season with 170 digs and 32 total blocks. He averaged 1.95 digs per game on the year and 0.37 blocks per contest for the Dolphins.

Pufahl saw action in 76 games as a junior over 23 matches. Pufahl totaled 172 kills on the season, good for a per game average of 2.26. He also recorded 27 service aces on the season and posted 60 digs. Pufahl also finished the season with 40 total blocks, which was good for third on the team.

Anselmo earned Second Team honors as a libero in his junior season. He appeared in 90 games over 28 matches this season and led the team in defensive digs with 223. He averaged 2.48 digs per game and also finished the season with 23 assists.

Joining Anselmo on the Second Team is Furka. The 6-3 freshman Middle Blocker had a strong rookie campaign for the Dolphins. Furka finished second on the team in kills with 191 and fourth in kills per game at 2.03. He also recorded 60 defensive digs and was the team leader in total blocks with 79, including 65 block assists.

Rounding out the trio earning Second Team honors is Ross. Ross, a senior outside hitter, had his season cut short by injury. Ross was still fifth on the team in total kills with 130 and in kills per game with 2.00. Ross finished the season with 39 assists and 15 service aces. The Wilton, ME native finished fourth on the team with 121 defensive digs and also contributed 34 total blocks.

In his third season at the helm, Callahan led the Dolphins to an overall record of 13-15 and a Skyline record of 6-2 in 2008. The Dolphins advanced to the inaugural Skyline Conference Tournament Championship match where they were defeated by top-seeded Bard.
