| Zach Munroe went 2-4 with a double, home run and five RBI at Mitchell on Wednesday. |
After having two outs and no one on base in the top of the first inning, Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ) walked and was driven home by Munroe’s long ball. The inning continued when Al Schor (Norwalk, CT) collected a single and was pushed across on a double from Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT) to give the Mount a 3-0 lead after its first at-bat. The three run first inning marks the fifth time in six games that the Dolphins have scored in their first at-bat.
After Mitchell scored a pair of runs to make the game 3-2 heading into the second inning, the Dolphins blew the game open with a 12 run inning in their second at-bat. The Dolphins recorded six hits in the frame and took advantage of five Mitchell errors to push across their 12 runs. The inning was keyed by a run scoring double from Tanner Munroe and an RBI single from John McManus (Bayside, NY). Zach Munroe closed out the scoring for the Mount in the frame when he cleared the bases with a three-run double.
Mitchell would get right back into the game, however, as it held the Mount scoreless the remainder of the afternoon. It would plate five runs in the third inning, a single run in the fourth and four more in the fifth to climb to within three runs. That would be as close as Pequots would get however, as the Dolphins escaped with the three run win.
Miguel Montano (Brooklyn, NY) got the start for the Mount and worked the first 3.0 innings. He allowed seven earned runs on four hits in his first start of the season. He struck out one and walked eight for the Dolphins. Corey Kirsh (East Meadow, NY) moved his record to 1-1 on the season after picking up the win in relief. He worked the final three frames, surrendering five runs on six hits. He walked three and fanned three.
Blackford went 1-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI for the Dolphins, while Schor went 1-4 with a pair of runs in the win. The Munroe brothers each collected two hits in the game, with Zach going 2-4 with two runs and five RBI and Tanner going 2-3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBI. Brendan Russo (Westbury, NY) also had a strong game at the plate, as he went 2-3 with two runs scored.
The win moves the Dolphins to 6-10 overall on the season. Mount Saint Vincent will return to league play this weekend when it travels to Old Westbury on Saturday for a Skyline Conference doubleheader. First-pitch for the twinbill is set for 12:00 p.m.
