Mount Saint Vincent Ends Losing Skid With Home Win Over Western Connecticut
Adams, Martin score four goals each in win

YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Lacrosse team stopped a three game losing streak on Monday with a 20-11 win over Western Connecticut (0-7). Cyndi Adams (Mechanicsville, MD) and Kelly Martin (Stony Point, NY) led the Mount with four goals each, as the Dolphins showed five players with at least two goals in the game. The 20 goal output is a season high for the Dolphins. 

Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to an 8-0 lead with 19:29 left in the opening half, before Western Connecticut got on the board with just under 17:00 left in the period. From there, Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, NY), Adams and Martin scored three straight to push the Mount out in front by an 11-1 score with 11:44 left in the opening period.

Mitchell and Erin Woerner (Kings Park, NY) would score within the last five minutes of the half for the Mount as the Dolphins would take a commanding 13-3 lead into the half.

Western Connecticut would out score the Dolphins 8-7 in the second period, with Jessica Majeski netting four goals in the period. Kara Kruczkiewicz also had a strong game for Western Connecticut, as she tallied five times and added an assist.

Adams finished the day with seven points for the Dolphins, as she added three assists to her four goals and Martin added one helper to her four marker day. Mitchell with three goals and Stacie Tripp (Glen Cove, NY) and Woerner with two goals each were the other Dolphins with multi-goal games.

Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY) led the team with four groundballs, while Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, NY) collected three groundballs and caused two turnovers to go along with an assist on the day.

Jackie Horn (Setauket, NY) earned the win in goal for the Dolphins after making nine saves, including six in the first half. Horn also collected a groundball in the winning effort.

Overall in the contest, the Dolphins held the edge in shots 29-25, groundballs 20-14 and draw controls 18-15. Turnovers in the game were even at 14 apiece. Western Connecticut converted 4-10 on free position shots; while Mount Saint Vincent converted the only attempt it was awarded.

The win improves Mount Saint Vincent’s record to 2-5 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to Cazenovia. The road contest is slated for 1:00 p.m.
