In game one the Dolphins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first after Zach Munroe (Milford, CT) drove in Eddie Park (East Meadow, NY) with a sacrifice fly. St. Joseph’s would respond with three runs in the home half of the first, before the Dolphins retook the lead at 4-3 with three runs of their own in the second inning. The Dolphins pushed across their three runs on just one hit, as they took advantage of two Golden Eagle errors in the inning.
St. Joseph’s would plate four in the fourth inning before Mount Saint Vincent responded with a single run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to tie the score at seven apiece. The Dolphins pitching staff couldn’t keep St. Joseph’s down however, as the Golden Eagles scored one in the sixth and two each in the seventh and eighth to take the opener.
Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ) went 2-3 in the opener with two RBI, while Munroe also collected a pair of hits to go along with a run scored and an RBI. Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY) and Michael Pope (Massapequa, NY) each ripped doubles for the Mount in game one.
Ryan Strub (Bohemia, NY) got the start for the Mount and worked 6.0 innings, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits. He fanned a pair and walked four. Nick Triolo (Homer, NY) took the loss, going 2.0 innings and surrendering four runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out one.
The Dolphins’ bats continued to click in game two as they pushed across 18 runs and pounded out 16 hits in their initial league win of the season. The Dolphins had five multi-run innings in the game, including a five run second and a six run sixth.
Four Mount Saint Vincent players had multiple hit games in the win, led by Schor’s four. Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT) went 3-5 with a run and an RBI, while Vinny Todino (Eastchester, NY) went 3-4 with a pair of runs and two driven in. Zach Munroe recorded two more hits to go along with three runs and three RBI for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins had eight extra base hits in the game with Zach Munroe recording a pair of doubles, while Brendan Russo (Westbury, NY) and James Labartino (Holbrook, NY) each ripped triples in the contest.
Mike Trainor (Patterson, NY) moved his record to 2-1 by working 4.1 innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits. He fanned a single batter and walked three in his third start of the season.
The split moves Mount Saint Vincent to 5-8 overall on the season and to 1-1 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they play host to Farmingdale State. First pitch for the Skyline twinbill is scheduled for noon at Maritime.
