DANBURY, CT – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team dropped a 10-3 decision at Western Connecticut (7-8) on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference contest. Senior Logan Mauzy (Homer, NY) recorded two of the Mount’s seven hits as he went a perfect 2-2 on the afternoon. Al Schor (Norwalk, CT) went 1-4 in the contest and drove in a pair of runs for the Dolphins.

Mount Saint Vincent pushed across two runs in the top half of the first inning. After James Labartino (Holbrook, NY) reached on an error and Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT) walked, Schor ripped a double down the left field line to push the Dolphins out front.

Western Connecticut would respond with three runs in the home half of the opening frame. After a single and a pair of walks from Dolphins starter Corey Kirsh (East Meadow, NY), Rob Bedard cleared the bases with a double down the left field line to put the Colonials ahead 3-2 after the first inning.

Western Connecticut would jump out to a 4-2 lead in the home second after Sam McNeil connected on a home run to left field. Mount Saint Vincent would climb to within a run at 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning after Labartino led off with a single and scored an unearned run. That would be as close as the Dolphins would get however, as the Colonials would score two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and one more in the seventh to secure the win.

Kirsh took the loss for Mount Saint Vincent and moves to 0-1 on the season. He worked 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and eight earned runs. He struck out seven and walked four in his third appearance of the season. John Olsen (Seaford, NY) came on in relief and work 2.2 innings, allowing a pair of runs on three hits.

Billy Armstrong spun 8.0 innings for the Colonials, allowing three runs, only one earned, on seven hits. He struck out eight and walked just one in improving to 1-1 on the year.

The loss, Mount Saint Vincent’s fifth straight, drops it to 4-7 overall on the season. The Dolphins will open their Skyline Conference schedule on Saturday, March 29 when they travel to St. Joseph’s (LI). First pitch for the twinbill is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
