Mount Saint Vincent Runs Winning Streak To Five With Sweep Of Medgar Evers

Karissa Koerner drove in six runs in Mount Saint Vincent's game one win.
YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team ran its winning streak to five games on Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep of Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic rival Medgar Evers. Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY) led the charge by driving in seven total runs, including six in game one. Lisa O’Shea (White Plains, NY) also had a big day, as she drove in five in the game one victory.

Mount Saint Vincent pounded out 13 hits in the opener and had five players record at least a pair. Koerner went 2-4 in the contest with four runs scored and her six RBI. Koener would record a triple and a home run in the win. O’Shea connected on two doubles in the contest, as she went 2-3 with two runs scored and five driven in.

Dana McGuire (East Setauket, NY), Ariella Tirado (Newburgh, NY), and Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY) each also had multi-hit games for the Dolphins. Tirando went 3-3 in the first game with four runs scored and three RBI, while McGuire and Flaherty each collected two hits and scored three runs.

Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN) won her fourth straight decision in game one, firing a no-hitter in the five inning affair. She struck out eight as she improved her record to 4-4 on the season.

In game two, the Dolphins again recorded double-figure hits, posting 11. Koerner continued to swing a hot bat, as she went 2-3 with two runs and an RBI. Gonzalez also had a strong day at the plate, going 2-2 with a run scored and four RBI. Tirado collected three more hits in the back end of the twinbill, as she went 3-3 with a pair of runs and two more RBI.

Tirando also had a strong game on the mound, as she picked up her first career win for the Dolphins. She fired 5.0 innings and allowed just one hit and one unearned run. She struck out one and walked one for the Mount.

The sweep pushes the Mount’s record to 5-5 overall on the season and to 2-0 in the HVWAC. The Dolphins will open their Skyline Conference schedule on Saturday, March 29 when they host St. Joseph’s (LI). First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Sarah Lawrence College.
