In a back and forth affair, the Dolphins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the third inning. Eddie Park (East Meadow, NY) led off the frame with a double and was later driven in on a Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT) single. The Dolphins would get their three runs on three base hits in the inning. The Mount would take advantage of an error in the frame to pull ahead by three runs early.
Westminster would get a run back in the home half of the third inning when Donnie Womeldorff singled through the left side to plate a run and cut the Dolphins lead to 3-1.
After Mount Saint Vincent plated a run in the top of the fourth when Blackford crossed the plate on a wild pitch, the Titans erupted for four tallies in the home half of the inning. Westminster’s first six batters of the inning reached base. Following a pair of singles and a walk, David Colella drove home a pair with a double down the right field line. Dave Evans and Dan Argiro added run scoring singles in the frame that pushed the Titans out in front 5-4.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Dolphins retook the lead in the sixth with a pair of runs, keyed by Schor scoring on an error and Zach Munroe (Milford, CT) crossing on a wild pitch. Westminster would tie the score in their half of the inning. Mike Williams would swipe third and then be pushed home on a RBI groundout to knot the score at 6-6 heading into the final frame.
Mount Saint Vincent would again jump out to a two run lead after James Labartino (Holbrook, NY) led off the seventh with a double. Following a Park walk and sacrifice bunt from Blackford, Labartino stole home to give the Mount back the lead. Park was then driven in by Schor who singled through the left side. The Dolphins used two hits in the inning to retake the lead.
Westminster would break the hearts of Mount Saint Vincent in the bottom of the inning, earning the 9-8 win after pushing across three runs. After Nick Mairorano was hit by a pitch he moved to second on a failed pickoff attempt. Following a groundout, the Titans strung together five straight hits to push across the game winning run.
Nate Todd (Holyoke, MA) took the loss
for the Dolphins after allowing four runs, all earned, on
six hits and three walks in 2.2 innings of work.
Corey Kirsh (East Meadow, NY) took a no
decision in the start after working the first 4.0
innings, surrendering five runs on nine hits. He walked
two and struck out three.
Other than Schor, Park was the only Dolphin with more then one hit in the contest, as he went 2-3 with two runs scored.
Westminster would sneak out a second win in its final at-bat in game two of the set. The only inning the Titans did not plate a run was the top half of the first. They would jump out to a 3-0 lead before the Mount hung two on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY) and a run scoring single from Vito Cataldo (Wantagh, NY).
From that point Westminster would score three runs in the fifth and two each in the sixth and seventh. The Dolphins snuck back into the game with four runs in the fifth keyed by a two run single from Mike Pope (Massapequa, NY). The Mount would tie the score at eight in its half of the sixth inning with two more runs. Nick Canzano (Farmington, NY) led off with a double and would end up stealing home on a double steal. Pope then tied the score with an RBI single that drove home Tanner Munroe.
Westminster would post a pair of its own in the top of the seventh to again break the Dolphins’ hearts. Following an error, John Izzo drove home the eventual game winning run with a double and then was pushed across by a Colella single through the right side. Evans would strike out the side in the bottom of the frame to secure the win.
Pope led the Dolphins in the second game, going 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and three RBI. Logan Mauzy (Homer, NY) also had a strong game, going 2-3 with an RBI. Canzano and Nick Triolo (Homer, NY) also colleted two hits each in the contest, with Canzano scoring two runs and Triolo crossing the plate once.
Zach Munroe made the start and work 4.1 innings allowing six runs on 10 hits. He walked a pair and fanned three in the outing. Anthony Palandro (Westbury, NY) took the hard luck loss in relief working 1.0 inning, allowing two runs, one earned, on a pair of hits. He struck out three Titans in his second appearance in Florida.
Westminster had seven players with at least two hits in game two, led by Izzo who went 3-4 with three runs and an RBI. Evans earned the win in relief, going the final 2.1 innings and striking out four.
Mount Saint Vincent closed out the southern trip with a 3-3 record and stands at 4-4 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on March 24 at NJCU. The twinbill with the Gothic Knights is set for 1:30 p.m.
