STUART, FL – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Softball team split a doubleheader with Marywood on Tuesday afternoon giving the Dolphins their first win of the season. The Mount fell in game one by a score of 4-2, but rebounded for an 8-2 triumph in the back end of the twinbill. Lisa O’Shea (White Plains, NY) combined for four hits on the day, including a double and a solo home run in the win.

In a closely contested game one, Marywood scored all of its runs in the first three innings. Trailing 4-0, the Dolphins plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth keyed by a triple from O’Shea and a run scoring single from Jillian Trancoso (West Haverstraw, NY).

Megan Gonzalez (Fishers, IN) again got the nod for the Mount and pitched a strong seven innings. She allowed just three earned runs on eight hits. She did not walk a batter and struck out one. Gonzalez also finished 1-2 at the plate for the Mount.

In game two, the Dolphins fell behind by a run in the first, before plating two runs in the top half of the second inning. After Marywood tied the score in the home half of the second, the Dolphins plated a single run in the third and fifth innings, before securing the win with a four run sixth inning.

O’Shea would play a huge role in the win with both her glove and her bat. Marywood would load the bases in the bottom of the second with a run already home. Caitlin Hadzimichalis would send a line drive to center that O’Shea would stab to end the threat and keep the game tied.

Leading off the third inning, O’Shea would connect on her first home run of the season to put the Dolphins in front to stay. For the game, O’Shea went 2-3 with a double and her home run, would score three times and would drive in three as well.

Mount Saint Vincent finished with a season-high 10 hits in the win with Ariella Tirado (Newburgh, NY), O’Shea and Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY) all finishing with a pair of base hits. Flaherty would also score a pair of runs in the contest.

Gonzalez earned her first win of the season in going the full seven innings. She surrendered a pair of runs, neither of which were earned. She walked two batters and struck out one to move to 1-4 on the season.

At 1-5 on the season the Dolphins will return north and continue play next week following the Easter holiday. Mount Saint Vincent will open its home schedule on March 25 when it takes on Lehman at Fay Field. First pitch from the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
