Mount Saint Vincent drops Florida opener to PSU-Behrend

Joe Blackford went 2-3 against PSU-Behrend on Saturday.
FT. PIERCE, FL – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team opened its Florida trip with a 9-1 loss to Penn St.-Behrend on Saturday morning. Sophomore Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, NJ) recorded two of the Mount’s five hits in the game. Anthony Palandro (Westbury, NY) took the loss for the Dolphins, but tossed five strong innings in his second appearance of the season.

Blackford was the only player to post multiple hits in the contest. Zach Munroe (Milford, CT) went 1-2 in the game and scored the lone run. He was driven in on a sacrifice fly from Tanner Munroe (Milford, CT). Vito Cataldo (Wantagh, NY) and Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY) recorded the other hits for the Dolphins.

Palandro got the start for Mount Saint Vincent and worked the first five innings. He gave up five hits and allowed just a pair of runs, both of which were earned. He walked just one batter and fanned five. Scott Taylor (Jersey City, NJ) and John Olsen (Seaford, NY) each saw their first action of the season, with Taylor working an inning and Olsen throwing two frames.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back on the diamond on March 16 for a doubleheader with Utica at Ft. Pierce.
