Women’s Lacrosse drops road tilt at Stevens
Martin, Mitchell record hat tricks for the Mount

Kelly Martin recorded her second straight hat trick for the Dolphins on Saturday.
HOBOKEN, NJ – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Lacrosse team fell on the road at Stevens on Saturday by a score of 18-10. The Dolphins had three players record at least two goals in the game, with Kelly Martin (Stony Point, NY) and Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, NY) each posting hat tricks.

Stevens would open the contest with a goal just 45 seconds in and would go on to score four of the first six markers in the tilt. Cyndi Adams (Mechanicsville, MD) would cut into the Ducks’ lead with a goal, her second of the game, at the 23:17 mark in the opening half. From there Stevens would close the half with 10 of the next 11 goals to take a 14-4 advantage into halftime.

Mount Saint Vincent would outscore Stevens in the second half 6-4, but it was not enough to overtake the Ducks. Mitchell scored all three of her goals in the second half, with Martin scoring two of her three in the final 30:00.

Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, NY) and Chanel Comis (Durham, NC) were the other two goal scorers for the Mount. Tucci’s goal put the Mount in front 2-1 just over two minutes into the contest, while Comis scored just over 10 minutes into the second half. Senior Alexis Alessi (Rockville Centre, NY) recorded four of the Mount’s 14 groundballs on Saturday. 

For the game, Stevens held the advantage in shots 36-20 and in groundballs at 19-14. Mount Saint Vincent was successful on 10 of its 18 clearing attempts while turnovers in the contest went 14-12 against the Dolphins. 

Jackie Horn (Setauket, NY) got the start in goal for the Dolphins and made nine saves, all coming in the first half. Horn also tied for a team-high four groundballs in the contest. Karen Laurent (East Elmhurst, NY) came on and played the final 20:38 of the game in her first appearance of the season.

Stevens was led in the game by six players with multiple goals. Michelle Buonacuore and Christine Smith each netted four goals for the Ducks, while Liz Mather recorded five assists. Stephanie Linder went the distance in goal for Stevens and made five stops.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action on Sunday, March 9 at Elmira. The game, being played at SUNY-Oneonta is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
