Dolphins split first two matches at MIT Invitational
Mount Saint Vincent falls to New Haven, tops Mount Ida

Arnold Ross tied for a team-high 15 kills against Mount Ida.
AMBRIDGE, MA – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the MIT Invitational on February 9. The Dolphins fell to New Haven 3-0, before downing Mount Ida in five games 3-2. Scores of the first match were 12-30, 28-30 and 18-30 in favor of New Haven, while the Mount responded against Mount Ida winning 30-25, 27-30, 30-26, 19-30 and 15-8. Freshman David Guerrero (East Meadow, NY) led the Dolphins with 23 kills over the two matches.

Against New Haven, Guerrero led the squad with nine winners to go along with a pair of digs. T.J. Pufahl (Bethpage, NY) posted seven winners in the match and rookie John Furka (Massapequa, NY) finished off six kills.

Chris Dotoratos (Bronx, NY) finished the match with 20 assists to lead the team and also had a pair of defensive digs. Arnold Ross (Wilton, ME) led the team in digs with four against New Haven and tied for a team-high seven total blocks with Pufahl.

In its win over Mount Ida, Mount Saint Vincent had four players record at least 14 kills in the match. Furka and Guerrero each recorded 14 winners, while Ross and Pufahl tied for the team lead in kills with 15 each. Fitzroy Lawson (Kingston, Jamaica) chipped in four winners and the Dolphins as a team showed 64 in the match.

Dotoratos and fellow setter Mike Quinn (Wantagh, NY) each played strong matches as the two finished with 29 assists apiece. Dotoratos finished with eight digs in the match with Quinn following with five.

Ross led the team in defensive digs with 14, while Guerrero and Phil Anselmo (Bronx, NY) each picked up 10. Furka led the way in total blocks with eight and Lawson and Guerrero each finished with seven.

The split moved the Dolphins to 4-5 overall on the season. They will be in action again on Sunday, February 10 against host MIT at 10:00 a.m.
