Curriculum
Major

To major in history, a student must pass ten history courses (thirty credits) with grades of C or better.  The ten courses are distributed as follows:

  • HIST 214: Shaping of the Modern World
  • One Pre-Modern Course (HIST 210: Classical Civiliations, HIST 211: Medieval History, or HIST 212: Eastern Roman Empire)
  • Two European history courses
  • Two Amercan history courses
  • Two Non-Western history courses
  • One upper-level history elective
  • One senior colloquium

Minor

To minor in history, a student must pass six history courses (eighteen credits) with grades of C or better.  The six courses are distributed as follows:

  • HIST 214: Shaping of the Modern World
  • One European history course
  • One American history course
  • One Non-Western history course
  • Two upper-level history electives.
