College of Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics Cathy Ingram has announced the hiring of Tom Husar as the new Head Men’s Junior Varsity Basketball Coach and as a new assistant on Michael Murphy’s varsity squad. Husar comes to Riverdale after serving as a Civics and Economics teacher and basketball coach at Richmond Senior High School in Rockingham, North Carolina.
Husar brings both playing and coaching experience to the Mount and will look to make immediate contributions to both men’s programs. Before his time in North Carolina, Husar was a part of the basketball programs at both Saint Bonaventure and Oneonta State. While at Saint Bonaventure, Husar was part of the Bonnies’ NCAA Tournament squad that took on Kentucky in his first season, losing a close hard fought game to the Wildcats.
After studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain for a semester, Husar used his last year of collegiate eligibility at Oneonta State while working towards his Masters degree. During his second year at Oneonta, Husar joined Head Coach Paul Clune’s coaching staff to assist with the day-to-day operation of the program.
Husar has also worked at several prestigious camps to enhance his coaching career. He has worked Binghamton University’s “Camp of Champs” as well as camps at Oneonta, Hartwick, Richmond High School, and Syracuse University. Husar has also had experience at the Red Areubach Basketball School and the Boston Celtics Rookie Camp.
A 2002 graduate from Saint Bonaventure with a degree in History and Education, Husar completed 30 Masters Credits in Education and was a representative for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Oneonta State.
Aside from his coaching duties at the Mount, Husar is also teaching Physical Education at PS 108 in Manhattan.
A native of Binghamton, NY, Husar currently resides in Riverdale with his fiancé Kim.
