Johnson had a strong all-around game as he shot 5-10 from the floor, including an impressive 4-7 mark from long range. He was also a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line and grabbed six rebounds in the contest. He also led the team with seven assists and came away with two steals in helping the Mount t back-to-back wins for the first time since November 20 and 28.
Widgeon was a force underneath in the win, shooting 8-15 form the floor and 4-6 from the charity stripe. He also grabbed five rebounds, all on the offensive glass for the Dolphins. He assisted on a basket and swiped a steal in the winning effort.
Johnson and Widgeon were just two of six players who finished in double-figures on the night, as Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond’s) and Joe Cooke (Mount Vernon, NY/Fordham Prep) each scored 17 points. Patrick Panetta (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) finished with 14 points, while Kyle Byrons (Goshen, NY/Burke Catholic) had 10 for the Dolphins.
Charlton finished with a game-high 10 rebounds on Monday, giving him his third consecutive double-double and his seventh overall this season. Byrons finished with nine boards and Eric Lastres (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy) pulled down four for the Dolphins.
For the game, the Mount shot a red-hot .514 from the field, including an even .500 from long range. The Dolphins also converted 24-33 from the free-throw line, including 17-25 in the second half.
Mount Saint Vincent forced 25 turnovers in the contest and turned those into 32 points on its way to its highest point total of the season. The Mount also held a commanding 49-28 advantage on the boards, pulling down more offensive rebounds (23) then Bard had defensive (17) in the game. That edge led to a 24-13 advantage in second chance points on the night.
Bard finished with four players in double-figures with Raymond Arocho leading the way with a game-high 30 points. He was 10-16 from the field and knocked down 3-5 from three-point range. Trevor McGinn led the way for the Raptors on the boards with nine.
The win moves the Dolphins to 5-8 overall on the season and to 2-4 in the Skyline Conference. They will be back in action when they play host to Polytechnic on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
