Women’s Tennis takes third place at HVWAC Championships, Bethencourt named Coach of the Year
First year mentor unanimous choice for honor
10/30/2007 - FLUSHING, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Tennis team closed out the 2007 campaign with a third place finish at the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Championships held at the National Tennis Center. First year head coach Luise  Bethencourt was named Coach of the Year by the league’s member coaches.

s Noelle Ebbitts (Coram, NY) advanced the finals in first singles, as well as in first doubles with her partner Jackie Galgano (Stony Point, NY). Galgano also advanced to the finals in third singles.

Jessica Lorenzen (Pembroke, NH) advanced to the third round in fourth singles at the championships and also advanced to the third round in second doubles with her partner Karen Laurent (East Elmhurst, NY).

At sixth singles, Carol Donnelly (Baldwin Harbor, NY) won her first round match, as did the third doubles pair of Michele Kirby (Bloomingdale, NJ) and Kathleen Nealon (Maspeth, NY).

Lorenzen and senior Meg Fraino (New City, NY) were honored at the event with All-HVWAC Honors at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.

Bethencourt was the unanimous choice for the league’s Coach of the Year at the event. In her first season at the helm of the Dolphins’ Women’s Tennis program, Bethencourt led the team to a 6-8 overall record, a 5-3 mark in the HVWAC and a third place finish at the championships.
