Dolphins snap five game losing streak with 3-0 win over Mount Saint Mary

10/24/2007 - YONKERS, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Soccer team snapped its five game losing skid with a 3-0 win over Skyline Conference foe Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday. Thomas Federico (Islip, NY) scored the game winning goal in the eighth minute and William Raftery (Throggs Neck, NY) made five saves for his second shutout of the season.

Federico got the Dolphins on the board when he banged home a deflected throw in from Fitzroy Lawson (Yonkers, NY) at 7:02. Senior Chris Herrera (Flushing, NY) added

his sixth goal of the season at the 35:49 when he sent a free ball to the left corner to close out the scoring in the first half.

Mount Saint Mary came out firing in the second half, as the Blue Knights had four great scoring chances in the opening five minutes of the half. However, of Mount Saint Mary’s 19 shots, only five found their way on goal.

Freshman Albert Munroe (Milford, CT) put the game away with his first career goal at 54:48 to close out the scoring in the game. Zack DiNeen (New Haven, CT) sent a free kick into the box and Munroe headed it home and sent the Dolphins to the win.

Raftery stood strong in net when needed against the Blue Knights. He made five stops including one on a partial breakout in the first half. Mount Saint Mary starter Kyle Reiss made one save, as did his replacement Paul Aries.

For the game, Mount Saint Vincent was out shot 19-8. Corner kicks in the game were even at four apiece and fouls were called 13-10 against the Dolphins. Mount Saint Mary was offside five times in the game, opposed to three times for Mount Saint Vincent.

The win moves the Dolphins to 4-10-1 overall on the season and to 2-5 in Skyline competition. Mount Saint Vincent will be back in action on Saturday, October 27 when it hosts Purchase on Senior Day. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers.
